About this ride
A short loop for a long summer evening in the Cairngorms National Park. It leaves Aviemore through Caledonian pine and birch, drops into a small village with an old stone packhorse bridge, then follows a quiet river valley before returning through dense plantation forest with the high plateau always somewhere to your right.
The roads are secondary and A class, mostly well surfaced, with sociable speeds and no tricky sections, so it suits riders of any experience. There is no single-track, but the forest stretches are enclosed and shaded, so watch for wildlife at dusk. Fuel is available at the start and about halfway, though opening hours vary, so check before an evening setting off. It is at its best from late May to August, when the light lasts.
