About this ride
A loop that starts at the edge of a historic seaside town and heads straight up onto open North York Moors, with a steep climb out of the river valley and wide heather moorland beyond. It then drops to a market town, runs along the foot of the hills and turns up through a narrow wooded valley before returning over the moor.
The moor roads are quick and open, with some sharp bends on the first descent and a steep first climb. The forest valley is slower and shaded, and the east side brings the coast within reach. Mostly A roads, so traffic can be heavy on summer weekends. Fuel is available at the start, and in the towns on the way. Best from late spring to early autumn.
