About this ride

A big, full-day circuit that links several landscapes: a fast run along an estuary shore, the quiet western edge of the fells, a forested mountain pass, and a long lake with a high pass to finish. The first half is quick trunk and primary road; the second is where the riding gets properly good.

The finishing climb has a couple of steep, narrow links near the top that deserve care, and much of the day is busy in summer. Fuel is available early on but gets scarce through the western section, so top up when you can. Plan a very early start and aim for May to September for long daylight.
