About this ride

A forested river village gives way to a quick main-road run across farmland, then to a long, bleak reservoir and a wide stretch of open upland moor. The scenery changes from wooded to wild in a few miles, and the high ground feels properly remote for the length of the ride.

The opening miles are fast and can be busy with lorries and caravans, after which the loop settles into quiet B roads and an exposed moorland road with long sightlines. A mountain pass closes the day. It suits a half-day outing for a rider who likes space and open views, best on a clear day when the moor is at its best.
