About this ride
A loop that begins beside a walled estuary town and follows a wooded river valley deep into the hills before climbing onto a broad, empty heather moor. The change from steep oak woods and mill villages to big open upland is the heart of the ride.
The valley road is a steady, twisting B road, followed by a short main-road link and a long, quiet moorland crossing with sweeping bends and good visibility. The way home is quicker and more open. It suits a relaxed half-day for a rider who likes variety, best in late summer when the heather is out and the valley traffic is thinner on a weekday.
