About this ride
The big one: a long day through the Yorkshire Dales that takes in broad river valleys, high moor passes, limestone country and the back lanes of the southern Dales, and never rides the same road twice. It is a tour of contrasts, from fast valley A roads to narrow, wall-lined lanes.
Plan it as a proper full day. There is a long gap between fuel stops, cattle grids on the moor roads, a stretch of narrow lanes and a few very short single-lane sections, so patience matters more than pace. The reward is variety and almost no repetition. Start with a full tank, pack a layer, and choose settled weather between late spring and early autumn.
