About this ride
A short, compact lap of the high limestone country around Settle, built for an evening or a lazy half-day. It follows a river up a dale between pale rock and green pasture, crosses open moor under big hills, and returns by a faster road through the villages of the foothills.
The first few miles include a short, narrow, single-lane lane out of town, so be ready to give way. Beyond that it is a mix of valley B roads, moor road with cattle grids and a quicker A road home. At 29 miles it leaves time for a pub lunch or a walk. Best in clear weather from late spring through summer, when the light stays long.
