About this ride
A short loop from a stone market town that climbs out of a wooded valley onto open moor, follows the line of a gritstone edge above a wide valley, then returns across the limestone plateau and down a dale to the start. Moor, rock and wall give way to green farmland within a few miles.
The roads are A and B throughout, with a few tight bends on the moor and some wind and loose gravel at the edges, so a little attention pays. Villages and cafés are close at hand, which makes it a good choice for a half-day or a long summer evening. Late summer, with the heather in bloom, is the best time.
