About this ride
A short loop built around a single road: a long, sweeping climb from the highest market town in England onto bare moor, then a fast descent towards the Cheshire plain. The rest is a steady link back through rolling farm country and a wooded valley.
The moor road is the highlight and also the fastest and busiest, with long views and exposed, changeable weather even in summer. The slowest miles are a narrow, climbing lane in the middle, and there is a short town stretch halfway round. It suits an evening or half-day on a clear day; check conditions before heading up, as fog and ice arrive early.
