About this ride

A half-day loop out of a Staffordshire Moorlands market town. It begins on a fast moorland road beneath a long, jagged gritstone ridge, crosses open moor on minor roads to a high plateau, and comes back along the western edge of the Peak across rolling hill farmland.

The ride runs in three gears: a quick A road, a slower, narrower middle section of moor lanes, and a long fast finish on A road again. The tops are exposed and weather turns fast, so layers are wise. Fuel is the practical constraint, with nothing confirmed for much of the middle, so start with a full tank. Late spring to autumn is best.
