About this ride
A big anticlockwise loop that crosses fourteen miles of open moor, drops through a market town and returns along a long, calm valley road. The moor is the star: huge views, bare skylines and wandering ponies and sheep.
The moor crossing is the part to respect. It is exposed, the weather turns quickly, and there are cattle grids and the odd narrow, bumpy stretch. The ponies do not give way, so ride at a speed that lets you stop. There is no fuel for a long way in the middle, so fill up before you leave. Best on a clear day from May to October.
