About this ride
The longest ride in the area and a proper full day: rolling farm country and small market towns, then a climb onto a wide, empty moor, and a long return down a river valley. It avoids the dual carriageway altogether, so the miles pass on quiet, varied roads.
The middle of the day is the demanding part, with narrow lanes and moor crossings where you will want to stay alert for stock and cattle grids. The distance is the real challenge, so allow plenty of time. Fuel is scarce for long stretches, so fill up at every chance. Go in the long days from May to September.
