About this ride

A big clockwise circuit that crosses the high moor on open roads, drops through a wooded valley and a pair of market towns, and then climbs back onto the moor for a second, even wilder pass. Expect bare skylines, granite outcrops, stone bridges and ponies on the verge.

The high moor is the hardest stretch: it is exposed, the road can be misty and cold even in summer, and animals wander across without warning. There is a short fast section of dual carriageway in the middle. Fill up before the moor, as fuel is scarce on top. Best on a clear day from May to October.
