About this ride

Two halves with different moods. The first runs easily down a long river valley, past a landscape of woods and gorges, before a short cut brings you to the edge of the old industrial valleys. The second climbs a fast, open road onto high moor, with big views and a proper sense of altitude.

The moor crossing is the highlight and the part to take care on: it is exposed, can be misty or windy, and the surface can be rough after winter. Check the weather before you commit. There is fuel at both ends, and the best months are May to September, when the tops are clear.
