About this ride
A compact circuit through the heart of Snowdonia's mountains, packed with mountain scenery for its length. Rising from the coastal plain, it follows a long dark lake, a deep wooded valley with a pair of smaller lakes and a rocky pass through the heart of the range before dropping back to the sea.
The roads are all A roads, with steady climbs, a handful of tight bends near the top and a flowing descent. Walkers' cars line the verges, so the pace is set by what you can see. It is short enough for an after-work ride, and the low evening light on the crags is the reason to choose it, ideally on a dry weekday in spring or summer.
